On Wednesday 21st August, 2024 the Minister of Communications, Knowledge, and Technology, Honourable Thulagano Merafe Segokgo officially handed over the Kanye optic fibre project to the Kanye community. This was a significant milestone in BoFiNet’s ongoing efforts to expand high-speed broadband infrastructure across Botswana. This achievement shows our commitment to enhancing connectivity and providing reliable, high-speed internet access to communities throughout the country.

The Kanye optic fibre project is part of the Government’s ongoing strategy to connect every citizen, business, and community to a high-speed broadband network that delivers quality services at affordable prices.

In his remarks, Honourable Thulagano Merafe Segokgo, highlighted the importance of such projects in advancing Botswana’s digital transformation and ensuring all citizens benefit from modern technology. He pointed out that the project, which was part of Government’s efforts to expand ICT network and broadband internet penetration across the country, would grow the domestic ICT sector contribution to the overall economy and create jobs, especially to the youth.

Also in attendance at the handover were the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Kanye South, Hon. Dr. Lemogang Kwape, and the Member of Parliament for Kanye North, Hon. Thapelo Letsholo, Kgosi Kgolo, Kgosi Malope II, along with local leaders, Government officials, and members of the business community. They support the shared commitment to improving ICT infrastructure and fostering opportunities for education and growth across Botswana.

As part of this handover, we partnered with the project contractor Teletechnics to donate 15 computers, a laptop and a printer for the learners at Makaba II Primary School. This is part of our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) strategy, aimed at supporting education and bridging the digital divide in Botswana.
